Four trucks transporting garbage ambushed and attacked

Colombo (News 1st): Four trucks transporting Colombo's garbage to the Aruwakkalu Sanitary Landfill site were ambushed and attacked early this morning (August 21) in Puttlam and Manathivu by an unidentified group. Police said no arrests were made as yet, while investigations are underway. A similar attack on trucks transporting garbage was reported on Monday morning as well. Colombo's Municipal Commissioner Palitha Nanayakkara had requested the Acting IGP to provide adequate security to the vehicles used to transport garbage to the Aruwakkalu Sanitary Landfill site. Four men who were arrested over Monday morning's attack were released on a surety bail of Rs. 200,000 each by the Puttalam Magistrate's Court. Sri Lanka Police said a special security program is in place along the route used to transport the garbage.
