'My only objective is to serve the people' - Sajith Premadasa

Colombo (News 1st) - Deputy Leader of the United National Party Sajith Premadasa attended a special meeting today (August 20). Ajith P. Perera, Nalin Bandara Jayamaha, Hector Appuhamy, Chandani Bandara, Hesha Vithanage, Thalatha Athukorale, and S.M. Marikkar attended the meeting along with 97 provincial councillors of the United National Party. The attention of the meeting was drawn towards issues faced by Provincial councillors of the United National Party. MP of UNP Nalin Bandara who spoke to the media stated that as the deputy leader of the party Sajith Premadasa needed to talk to Provincial councillors of the party noting that it was not held in secret. "Majority in the party and the majority of the people in this country and parliamentarian want Sajith Premadasa", he continued. He further stated that they don't think in a negative way about Sajith Premadasa being selected as the presidential candidate from the UNP led Alliance. Another Parliamentarian of UNP, Hesha Withanage highlighted that there was no secrecy behind the meeting and that the deputy leader of the party Sajith Premadasa convened all provincial councillors from the UNP. "I feel this is an important discussion when there is an upcoming election in the country", he continued. He further mentioned that Sajith Premadasa has performed his duty well as the Deputy Leader and the meeting held has strengthened the provincial councillors for the upcoming election. MP Ajith P. Perera of UNP stated that Sajith Premadasa was unanimously decided as the next Presidential Candidate. "It is very shocking that there are people who can't understand this", he noted. Journalists raised a question regarding the outcome of the document signed by 55 MPs yesterday (August 19) urging the working committee and parliamentary group to convene. In response to this Deputy Leader of UNP Minister Sajith Premadasa highlighted that everything would happen on a positive note, further adding that MPs from the Pohottuwa party would join him. He further mentioned that he is not worried about individuals in response to a question regarding his views on Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. He emphasized that his sole concerns are the problems of the country and that his only objective is to serve the people.
