Acting IGP summons report on six cases including the assasination of Lasantha Wickramathunge

COLOMBO (News 1st):- Acting IGP C.D.Wickremeratne has ordered the CID to provide him with reports regarding six major incidents including the assassination of Senior Journalist Lasantha Wickremethunga. This is in response to a letter sent by the Attorney General on the 15th of this month regarding five major investigations being carried out by the CID. The Attorney General had inquired regarding the following incidents. 1) The assassination of Lasantha Wickrematunga 2) The death of Wasim Thajudeen 3) The abduction of Keith Noyahr 4) Murder of 17 relief workers in Muttur 5) Abduction and forced disappearance of 11 youth The AG instructed the acting IGP to conclude the investigations into the five incidents without delay and submit the investigation files to the Attorney General's Department. Police media spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekara said that the IGP requested for a report on these five cases and the abduction and disappearance of journalist Ekneligoda from the Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police in-charge of the Criminal Investigations Department. He further said that the CID has been informed to compile reports on all of these 11 matters separately in all of these six cases and hand it over on or before August 23rd.
