Colombo (News 1st) - In allusion to previous statements and current statements made by Leader of Pivithuru Hela Urumaya, Udaya Gammanpila regarding attempts of the SLPP presidential candidate, Gotabaya Rajapaksa to renounce his U.S citizenship : Udaya Gammanpila once reasoned that according to the headlines recently in newspapers, the document issued by the US State Department with the names of those who had requested to renounce their US citizenship did not include Gotabaya Rajapaksa's name. He further highlighted that Gotabaya Rajapaksa renounced his US citizenship in May 2019. "So how can his name appear in the list issued for the quarter ending 31st March this year? ", he further reasoned. He stated that the US department would issue the next list by the end of June and that would be the report they should consider. Udaya Gammanpila speaking on this subject now stated that the website states that the document published was a list prepared based on information submitted to the secretary of the US state department under the quarterly basis. He further mentioned that the document including the names of those who have requested to renounce their US citizenship, cannot be considered as final evidence. Therefore, whether the list includes Gotabaya Rajapaksa's name or not, does not matter, and is not relevant, he further added.
