COLOMBO (News 1st):- Convening a media briefing today (August 16), MP Vasudeva Nanayakkara of the Democratic Left Front commented on the upcoming activities of the SLPP. Negating claims made by the SLFP that they would not be able to claim victory without them, MP Vasudeva Nanayakkara said that they will receive the support of the SLFPers islandwide and that the support of the President will also be extended to them. Responding to inquiries about the other parties, he said that the SLPP has already signed an MOU with several of these parties and that an alliance named the Joint Podujana Peramuna will be formed together with the first ten political parties that join with them. He further said that if and when Gotabaya Rajapaksa becomes the President of the country, that Mahinda Rajapaksa will be granted the post of Prime Ministership after which the current President will have to become the Deputy Prime Minister of that government. The MP says that this new post of Deputy Prime Ministership can be added to the constitution later with necessary powers. MP Vasudeva Nanayakkara added that the other SLPP leaders did not either respond or oppose this idea presented by him.
