COLOMBO (News 1st):- The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) commented on the statement made by Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka regarding Gotabaya’s Presidential candidacy.

UPFA MP Shehan Semasinghe said that they have a lot of issues on Field Marshal’s political view during this time. However, he says that when it comes to national security, that the joint opposition, Mahinda Rajapaksa and Sarath Fonseka are all on the same view since they believe that this matter should be given top priority. Further, UPFA MP Bandula Gunawardene said that even if they like it or not, the most suitable person for national security within the UNP is Sarath Fonseka.

The journalists questioned the parliamentarians gathered at the media briefing of an alleged invitation that the Field Marshal had received from the opposition to join them and an opportunity to be granted with the position of Defence Secretary if Gotabaya Rajapaksa becomes the President of the country. Although the Defence Ministry matter was not provided with a proper answer, to the matter of receiving an invitation, the MPs said that national objectives must be fulfilled instead of seeking out revenge.

The MPs specifically added that there are no permanent enemies or friends in politics in response to repeated inquiries on an invitation given to the Field Marshal to join the opposition along with the promise of a high ranking position.

What needs to be noted in such situations is that although the politicians shift allegiances and create enemies from time to time, the people’s suffering seems to be everlasting.
