Colombo (News 1st): The Meteorological Department predicts that windy and showery condition in the South-Western part of the island will continue throughout the day.
It adds that there is a possibility for the sudden increase of wind speed up to 60 kmph over the island particularly in Western, Southern, Sabaragamuwa, North-Central, North-Western, Northern and Central provinces and in the Trincomalee district.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and North-Western provinces. Heavy rainfall above 100 mm is likely at some places in Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle, Matara, and Kalutara districts. Showers or thundershowers will occur at few places in Mullaitivu, Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2.00pm.
There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers. The Met department requests the general public to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.
