Food stuff and hospital waste stored side by side at Badulla Sathosa stores : Hospital to destroy waste

Colombo (News 1st): Badulla hospital authorities say that the consignment of hospital waste which is stored at the Sathosa store in Badulla will be destroyed within the next three days using hygienic methods. Its Deputy Director Dr Ranjith Amarakoon said there is no hazardous waste in it. The Deputy Director said this, in response to the statement made by the Badulla District Branch of the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) stating that a large quantity of hazardous waste, including vaccine vials, had been stored at the Badulla Sathosa Food Store. Secretary of the Badulla branch of the GMOA Dr Palitha Rajapaksa said the waste was harmful to human health.
