COLOMBO (News 1st) – Farmers of the Kaudulla Agrarian Development Movement in Polonnaruwa are severely inconvenienced due to the lack of water in the Yala season and are facing a crisis situation due to lack of water for 13,500 cultivated lands. Farmers allege their crops are currently being destroyed due to the crisis.
All Ceylon Farmers Federation convened a media briefing yesterday (August 11).
The national organizer of the All Ceylon Peasants Federation, Namal Karunaratne noted that despite promises to compensate Kawdulla farmers for the crops destroyed in 2018 the government has still failed to do so.
He demanded the water policy be revised and stop deceiving the farmers with false promises of compensation.
Finally, Namal Karunaratne demanded the government to set an increased price for paddy instead of purchasing their paddy for a low price.
