Colombo (News 1st): A press conference regarding the general assembly of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, which is to be held on 11th, was held today in Colombo. It was chaired by the national organizer of that party Basil Rajapaksa and he said that the party's Presidential Candidate will be announced after the party leadership is handed over to Mahinda Rajapaksa. Speaking about inviting SLFP for the event on the 11th, he noted that the party has not been invited, but all MPs who are with the Opposition Leader have been invited. He believes that the SLFP not being invited will help with their discussions. When questioned as to why he is willing to offer someone else the chance of reaping the harvest he sowed, he noted that Mahinda Rajapaksa is the leader who brought it up. He noted that he was remanded and was told they will make him walk on the road if a new party is formed. Basil Rajapaksa noted that they established the party with the blessings of the people. Journalists also questioned as to why he didn't take the candidacy. Responding to this he said that as a party they expect to bring proper management to this country, and it should be someone who could eliminate fraud and corruption, it should be someone with democratic values. He noted that he personally thinks that Gotabaya Rajapaksa has these values. Basil Rajapaksa went onto note that maybe Mahinda Rajapaksa has other people on his mind and it's his right.
