271 houses in 7 districts damaged due to inclement weather

Colombo (News 1st) - The prevailing windy conditions around the country and surrounding maritime areas and showery conditions in the South-Western part of the island are expected to continue. The Ministry of Disaster Management stated that 271 houses in 6 districts including Nuwara-Eliya have been damaged due to the prevailing inclement weather. Assistant Director, Ministry of Disaster Management, Pradeep Kodippili stated that necessary procedures to provide compensation for the victims have commenced. Furthermore, the Meteorology Department stated that there is a high possibility for the sudden increase of wind speeds up to (70-80) kmph in Northern, North-Central, North-Western provinces and in Trincomalee and Matale district (particularly in the afternoon and at night). Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and North-Western provinces. Several spells of showers will occur in Mannar, Jaffna and Anuradhapura districts. Heavy falls above 100 mm are likely at some places in Western, Central, North-Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.
