AG speaks on the importance of upholding the law

COLOMBO (News 1st): Attorney General Dappula de Livera speaking about upholding the rule of law in the country, in an event held in Kandy said that if the citizens of the country have the fortune to be treated equally that there is no doubt that the rule of law and order will prevail. He assured the people that as long as he is in the position that he will play according to the law and speed up the process because justice delayed in other words is justice being denied. He further said that due process should also reign at every level and that the fear of committing crime should be instilled in the country. The Attorney General says that the people of the country are not afraid of committing crime because the system is not geared to instil fear since it has continuously been dysfunctional. He said that sentencing should be made rigorous because democracy cannot prevail in the country without the law prevailing. The AG further said that democracy could survive only if the institutions responsible for the administration of justice, could deliver properly. He firmly added that when he begins to clear the house that its impact will be felt by individuals and institutions.
