Colombo (News 1st): The Central Environmental Authority has requested the Government Analyst to submit a report on the containers of garbage imported to Sri Lanka from the UK. Director of the Hazardous and Chemical Waste Management Unit Ajith Weerasundara said, there are 102 containers of this nature at the Colombo Port.
Meanwhile, the Attorney General yesterday (July 26) assured the Supreme Court that the containers, would not be moved until Monday, which is the next date the case would be taken up. The AG also assured that the containers would be stored in a manner where it would not cause any harm to the surrounding environment.
The AG made these comments when a writ petition filed by the Centre for Environmental Justice seeking the Supreme Court to order the containers be sent back to England, was taken up in Court yesterday.
