SLFP ready to announce presidential candidate on September 2nd - MP Dayasiri Jayasekara

Colombo (News 1st): The General Secretary of the SLFP MP Dayasiri Jayasekara expressing his views regarding the presidential candidate during a media briefing today (July 23) noted that to them what matters most is a set of policies and not the candidate. He added that they even handed over a copy of their principles to President Maithripala Sirisena and he expressed his views. MP Jayasekara noted that they will present this to the central working committee, and go forward with it. Podujana Peramuna stated that they will be announcing their presidential candidate on September 11th. Journalists questioned the general secretary in this regard. He noted that the SLFP too can announce its presidential candidate on September 2nd as they do not have to rush to announce the candidate. He noted that they must first join hands and strengthen their alliance. The parliamentarian noted that after appointing the leader, they cannot win instantly and they too must try to form an alliance and propose a leader for it. He believes the present president together with the former president will discuss this matter with fellow leaders of the party.
