COLOMBO (News 1st) – The Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy stated the water levels of hydropower reservoirs have dropped to an all-time low in 29 years.
As a result of the dry weather, residents in a number of districts are distressed. The residents of Aranthalawa, Ampara have no adequate drinking water and they have to travel over 4km to bathe.
Data from the Disaster Management Centre emphasizes that up to 60,000 residents have been badly affected due to dry weather.
Matale district is another area that has been heavily affected by the dry weather and residents said that to make matters worse they have seen wild elephants entering villages in search of water.
