Teachers can enrol their children to the schools they teach

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Ministry of Education intends to allow all teachers, who have completed a service period of more than 3 years at national schools, to enrol their children to the same school. Issuing a communique, the Ministry stated that Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has instructed the relevant officials to take necessary steps in this regard. Therefore the opportunity will be granted to enrol students to national schools to any grade excluding grades 1, 5, 6 and 11. The ministry believes that this new procedure will motivate teachers to teach with a favourable mental condition and lead to an efficient teaching system across the country. In addition, the communique states that student vacancies available at schools will be displayed at the Ministry of Education and a transparent procedure will be implemented to assist parents to apply for the vacancies.
