Court re-issues an open warrant for Jaliya Wickremesuriya and relatives

Colombo (News 1st): Fort Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake today (July 10) re-issued an open warrant for the arrest of former Sri Lanka Ambassador to the US Jaliya Wickremasuriya, his wife and her cousin. The Magistrate issued the order after taking into consideration a submission made by the Police Financial Crimes Investigations Division, noting that the suspect had travelled overseas for treatment, and the bondsmen of his bail, his wife and her relative had also travelled overseas and are absconding. The Police FCID arrested former Sri Lankan Ambassador to the US Jaliya Wickremasuriya on charges of misappropriating US$ 132,000 allocated for the construction of a building at the Sri Lankan Embassy in the United States. The Magistrate ordered the investigating officials to report to the court on the progress of the investigations on November 5th.
