Ruhuna Vice-Chancellor asks students to be on high alert

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Concerns have been raised regarding a letter issued by the Vice-Chancellor of the Ruhunu University E.P. Saman Chandana, with an update on the University's security situation. The Vice-Chancellor via the communique has requested the students to be on high alert and follow security measures due to a potential bomb threat that could take place at a state institution between Kalutara and Kataragama. Vice Chancellor's office confirmed the communique. When News 1st inquired the Police media spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekara on the matter noted that they were not informed of a potential threat by any intelligence service. SP Ruwan Gunasekara, Police Media Spokesperson noted that the Matara Police Superintendent has received intel via an unreliable source and it was shared by the Deputy Senior Inspector General of Police of the Southern Province leading to the communique by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ruhuna. Meanwhile, Army Media Spokesperson Brigadier Sumith Atapattu stated that security in the Southern Province has been secured by the armed forces and instructed the public to resume their day to day activities as usual.
