COLOMBO (News 1st): The Railway Control room reports that despite the trade union action of the railway employees being called off yesterday (July 04), the train services have not returned to normalcy due to employees not reporting for duty. Several trains have been suspended due to this situation.
The trade union action was launched on July 3rd in protest of alleged pressure by the secretary to the Ministry of Transport to call off disciplinary action taken against an employee by the General Manager of Railways.
The strike was called off after discussions with the subject Minister Arjuna Ranatunga yesterday (July 04).
