2 dead, 2 injured when mound of earth collapses in Kalawana

Colombo (News 1st): Two people died and another two sustained injuries when a mound of earth collapsed in Pothupitiya, Kalawana today (June 27). The 15-foot high mound of earth collapsed on the victims who were engaged in excavation activities to construct the foundation for a school building. News 1st correspondent in the area noted the accident took place at around 9 am today. Residents note that when attempts were made to rescue the victims, another mound of earth collapsed. Two individuals who sustained injuries when the second mound of earth collapsed, were admitted to the Pothupitiya and Kalawaana base hospitals. The deceased aged 45 and 31 were residents of Kuruwita.
