Retired railway employees to be reinstated

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Minister of Transportation Arjuna Ranatunga signed the gazette notification to make Railway service an essential service. The Ministry of Transport has reached a decision to reinstate retired railway employees to service. The Ministry states that retired Engine Drivers, Guards, Station Masters, Signalmen and Track Inspectors will be reinstated accordingly. The Ministry requested all retired employees to visit the Shalika Grounds on June 28th for processing. Recently, Railway Trade Unions said they would launch a One-Day strike action every Thursday if their demands are not met.
