COLOMBO (News 1st): Parliamentarian Vijith Wijayamuni Zoysa called on the Mahanayakes of the Asigiriya and Malwatte today (June 23). MP Vijith Wijayamuni Zoysa who has been nominated for the position of the UNP Organiser for Katana, met with the Chief Prelates to discuss his future activities. Following the meeting, he responded to certain questions by the journalists. There are presidential candidates everywhere. Do you also prefer a simple president?  To which the MP replied that he does not have a problem with whoever is appointed and that he will continue to work for any leader with a pure vision. Responding to an inquiry about the position as organizer of Katana and the rumoured opposition for it, he said that he's now observing self-censorship and therefore would not make statements directing anyone. He further said that since the media already broadcast the news item that he does not worry about it and that for people who have lived in the village borders during the LTTE war he considers this a minute concern. Former Western Provincial Councillor Srinath Perera also speaking at a separate occasion stated that the Negombo, Katana and Wattala seats performed well during the previous elections and that the district won because of it. He further said that those organizers who safeguarded the seats of the UNP are being changed and continued to say that they expect the defeated electoral organizers to change. He also said that the appointment of Vijith Wijayamuni Zoysa to the Katana seat is not an issue for them but further said that it is a seat that brought victory for the UNP. The former councillor added that although he has no issue with Zoysa that the party does not need help from someone who switches parties to obtain parliamentarian positions or borrow people from elsewhere to mark a victory. However, against this backdrop on the 02nd of this month, a group of party members made a mockery out of the parliamentarians who arrived for a meeting. UNP Chief Organizer for Katana Attorney-at-law Rose Fernando speaking on this situation said that they will not be able to ask for votes from this village at the next elections because they will lose if they do so. She continued to say that she will not bow down to anyone in politics and that she will continue with her service. She added that the MP is not anyone to her since he left the MR government and joined the new one in power.
