"We will put forward a winning candidate" - MR

COLOMBO (News 1st): Opposition Leader, Mahinda Rajapaksa worshipped the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy this morning (June 23). He visited the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic this morning along with a group of MPs representing the Joint Opposition. The Opposition Leader first met with the Chief Prelate of the Malwatte Chapter of the Siam Nikaya, Most Venerable Thibbatuwawe Sumangala Thero and later met with the Anunayake of the Malwatte Chapter, Most Venerable Dimbulkumbure Wimaladamma Thero. Later he also met with the Most Venerable Dimbulkumbure Wimaladharma Thero. The Thero speaking to the opposition leader reminded him of certain mistakes done by him when he was in power, to which Mahinda Rajapaksa responded saying that it must be controlled. Following the meetings, the opposition leader speaking to the media, commented on the statement made by the Prime Minister on how King Dutugemunu can learn from them to develop the country and ridiculed his statement. Commenting on the upcoming election, the opposition leader said that they will all come together and put forward a winning candidate who will love the people and the country. However, he also added that they have not found such a candidate as yet.
