COLOMBO (News 1st): The National Drug Prevention week began today (June 23) and will end on July 1st to coincide with the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The second leg of the public awareness program carried out by Gammadda V Force together with Sri Lanka Police to prevent people from falling victim to the drug menace took place today in Kerawalapitiya, Wattala.
In a bid to help people to move away from their addictions and move forward with their lives, the divisional community police unit, the office of the DIG in charge of the Western Province North and the Gammadda V force initiative jointly organized this program.
Counselling, Psychiatric Therapy, and specialist treatment were provided to those addicted to drugs. A number of Specialist doctors, Psychiatrists and Therapists joined hands with the organizers to conduct the awareness program.
Those who attended the program will continue to be monitored by a divisional committee.
