Former director of bank supervision at CBSL Joan Moonesinghe passes away

COLOMBO (News 1st): Former Director of Bank Supervision of the Central Bank Of Sri Lanka Joan Moonesinghe passed away last night (June 23). Mrs Joan Moonesinghe is the late wife of Anil Moonesinghe who was the Deputy Speaker and Minister of Transport. She is the mother of a son and a daughter. She undertook an assignment under the Government of Brunei as an advisor for banking since 2007 for a period of 5 years and was responsible for setting up a banking regulatory arm in Brunei. She was a voracious author of financial matters impacting on the state of the economy and the people of Sri Lanka. She was particularly vocal about the unbearable high-interest rate,  mainly in the microfinance level and articulated a necessity for legislation to control the microfinance interest rates and promoted the cause of responsible lending. Final rites are due to be held on June 25th at 9:30 at the Borella cemetery.
