Supplementary estimate of Rs. 65,000 million for highways presented to parliament

Colombo (News 1st): A supplementary budget of Rs. 65,000 million was presented to the parliament today (June 20) by the Ministry of Highways & Road Development and Petroleum Resources. Rs. 47,648 million of the supplementary budget submitted to the parliament will be allocated to extend the Southern Expressway from Matara to Hambantota. Rs. 5983 million was allocated for the construction of the Colombo outer circular expressway while Rs. 3500 million will be allocated for the port entrance road and several other development projects. Meanwhile, views were expressed on the supplementary budget which was withdrawn earlier due to certain issues and resubmitted. The budget also included purchasing of a vehicle for the opposition leader and refurbishment of official residences of the ministers.
