Welikanda Accident: Van driver arrested

Colombo (News 1st): A collision between a van and a hand-tractor on the Batticaloa - Welikanda road left 05 people dead and another dozen injured. The victims were a group who were returning home in the tractor after witnessing the annual Poson Perahera at the Dimbulagala Aranya Senasanaya. 17 people were travelling in the tractor and 04 people were in the van at the time of the accident. Police said the van attempted to overtake the tractor however, the driver lost control and crashed on to the tractor. 05 people who were travelling in the tractor died in the accident and a dozen people were admitted to the Polonnaruwa Base Hospital. The driver of the van was arrested and will be produced before the Polonnaruwa Magistrate's Court.
