COLOMBO (News 1st) – The train strike which was scheduled to commence at midnight today (June 19) has been postponed until 2 pm tomorrow (June 20).
Five trade unions, train drivers, train guards, train controllers, station masters and railway supervisors had decided to engage in a strike because of the failure to implement the cabinet paper to remove existing salary anomalies of railway employees.
Secretary to the Locomotive Operating Engineers Union, Indika Dodangoda noted the trade unions have decided to postpone the strike until 2 pm tomorrow following the discussion with Minister Arjuna Ranatunga.
He added that during the discussions the minister accepted their demands and said that he would look into them.
