Horowpathana OIC bribe: Suspect granted bail

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The man who was arrested and remanded for attempting to bribe the Horowpathana Police OIC with Rs. 250,000 was released on bail today(June 18). The suspect was released after he appeared before the Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne today(June 18). The suspect was ordered to be released on Rs. 15,000 cash bail and 02 sureties of Rs. 400,000 each. The Chief Magistrate ordered bail considering the fact the Bribery Commission had concluded its investigations on the suspect. The case will be called up again on September 10th for further processing. The suspect had offered a bribe of Rs 500,000 to the Horowpathana OIC to release his uncle who was arrested for aiding the terror acts of the banned National Thawheed Jamaath and was arrested with Rs. 250,000 which was intended to be the advance. Meanwhile, the Colombo Magistrate, Lanka Jayartne ordered the Colombo District Organizer of the banned NTJ, Mohammed Parvez to be further remanded until July 2nd. The decision was taken as the Western province Intelligence unit notified the court that they have not concluded their investigations on the suspect
