"Western powers should not be allowed to suppress Asia" - President

COLOMBO (News 1st): President Maithripala Sirisena states that no western force should be allowed to suppress the power of Asia. The President made these comments while addressing the 5th Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin and the President of Turkey Tayyip Erdogan and the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani were among those who participated at the initiation of the conference. The President further noted that strengthening the relationship and bond between the countries of the Asian region is important in order to achieve peace, economic prosperity and defeat global terrorism.
