COLOMBO (News 1st): Head of Traffic Police DIG Ajith Rohana spoke about the current situation in the country in terms of security. He claimed that regularly for a period of one week that 40-50 protest campaigns are conducted in Colombo and that apart from that 200 protest campaigns are conducted islandwide. He further said that they do not have the time to execute warrants, or other processes or summons, neither arrest people. The DIG continued to say that they do not possess the time to investigate into the cheating cases including robbery and housebreaking because every time a thousand of police officers have to be deployed to contain the protest campaigns and that this is the biggest challenge the country goes through at present. He made these comments at a public seminar on "Arrest and detention under normal law, PTA and Emergency Regulations" organized by the Bar Association of Sri Lanka. The event was attended by President's Counsel and President of Bar Association of Sri Lanka, Kalinga Indatissa, Deputy Solicitor General Azad Navavi, President's Counsel, Deputy President of the Bar Association Shavindra Fernando and DIG of Traffic Ajith Rohana. Also speaking at the event, President of the Bar Association Kalinga Indratissa said that when he was in school and when his children went to school in the 1990s, when he meets young law students in the 2000s everyone has to say that Sri Lanka is still a developing country. He continued to say that either it is because we have developed so much as a country that we fail to see it or we are still continuing to develop, either way, he added that he believes the interpretation of the definition of development has changed.
