SLTB union protest at Siri Kotha continues

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The protest staged by The National Workers’ Society of SLTB at the Siri Kotha premises continued today(June 11) as well. Members of the society went to Sirikotha yesterday to meet UNP General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam to demand salary increments following their promotions. But they reported that the minister avoided them and the members of the National Workers’ Society staged a protest at the Siri Kotha. Prabath Chaminda Nawaratne a member of the society noted that 5100 SLTB employees were promoted and they are entitled to a salary increment and they will all arrive at the scene to support the protest if their demands are not met. He demanded their salaries to be increased by June 26th. Daya Gamage, Minister of Primary Industries and Social Empowerment noted that the SLTB employees were clearly left out and ignored even by the former government. He added that the current government's conduct against such backdrop was not correct.
