COLOMBO (News 1st) - Ven. Baddiya Thero expressed views on communal equality before the law and living in peace and harmony with unity on the Pethikada program today(June 06). The Thero noted that Sri Lanka was always misled and deceived. According to the Thero, despite the common belief current laws prevailing in the country is not the Sinhala-Buddhist law, it is the Roman-Catholic law introduced by colonials. The Thero added that Middle-Eastern media networks portray Sri Lanka as a Buddhist extremist country and requested the Muslim politicians to avoid conveying misleading information to the Middle Eastern media. He went on to note that the Muslim community itself refuses "Wahabism" and they are grateful to live in Sri Lanka rather than in the Middle East on any given day. The Thero added that nobody wants to live suspecting each other. The Thero continued that just as much as the Muslim community needs to avoid wearing apparels which conceal the identity, full-face helmets and masks that are used in the Vesak season should also be banned. "The law to disclose their faces should be equal to everyone" Thero concluded.
