COLOMBO (News 1st) – The government has imposed a maximum retail price for three varieties of rice in the domestic market. According to an extraordinary gazette dated May 31st, the maximum retail price of a kilo of  White Samba is fixed at Rs 85. The maximum retail price of a kilo White Nadu is Rs 80 and the maximum retail price of a kilo of Red Nadu is Rs 74.

The Consumer Affairs Authority stated that strict legal action is to be taken against merchants who sell in excess of the maximum retail price imposed.
