COLOMBO (News 1st): A group of SLFP MPs visited the Mahanayake Theros of the Malwatte and Asgiriya Chapters. The MPs first paid homage to the Sacred Tooth Relic and subsequently visited The Mahanayake of the Asgiriya Chapter, Most Venerable Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Thero. They presented the proposal regarding the national security of the country to the Thero.
Speaking on the proposal the Anunayake of the Asgiriya Chapter Dr Venerable Medagama Dhammananda Thero claimed that although there are genuine proposals presented and that in the end everything is decided by the party leader and the party.
He further said that everything is now carried out by setting aside religion and that the leaders have failed to act upon their subconscious. The Thero added that at this time in the society that the deciding force is the Catholic Bishops and the Buddhist leadership and that therefore it is advisable to act according to them.
Member of the Sangha Sabha Venerable Muruddeniye Dhammarathana Thero claimed that everyone is responsible for the incidents that unfolded irrespective of parties due to the negligence of the rulers. He added that the politicians coming forward is a great move since the people look at the politicians in disgust.
Speaking on the US agreement, the Asgiriya Anunayake Dr Venerable Medagama Dhammananda Thero said that although they could present everything that they do not know if their views are being heard or being taken up by the parliamentary select committee. The Thero also questioned the parliamentarians stance on the matter of the US agreement and its content to which UPFA MP Mahinda Amaraweera responded that they are currently gathering information on the matter in order to find the truth.
Following this meeting, the MP’s also presented the proposal to the Mahanayake of the Malwatte Chapter Venerable Thibbatuwawe Sri Sumangala Thero.
