Former Minister D.E.W. Gunasekara on global terrorism

COLOMBO (News 1st): A conference on global terrorism was held yesterday (May 23) in Colombo. Speaking at the event General Secretary of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka, D.E.W. Gunasekara said that it is disappointing to see that the parliamentarians of neither the opposition nor the government spoke about the history, its birth, expansion and nature of global terrorism. He continued to say that the people involved in this are educated and rich people who are equipped with military and religious power. Commenting on the background of terrorism he stated that without knowing the background properly that it is not possible to address the issue adding that sources of funds for the matter are through heroin and arms dealing. Also speaking at the event Leader of the Lanka Sama Samaja Party, Professor Tissa Vitharana said that the USA created state terrorism based on the global needs of the country. He continued to say that through it they attacked Iraq and Afghanistan without any agreement from the UN. He added that the USA broke world laws and regulations and that they also created mercenary terrorist groups.
