"Though Buddhism is protected by constitution, it is not enough" - Minister Sajith Premadasa

Colombo (News 1st): Under an initiative to provide facilities to underprivileged temples, the foundation stone was laid for a dhamma school building at the "Egoda Bedda" Kirama Subodharamaya in Wallasmulla Hambantota today (May 18). This ceremony was held under the auspices of the Minister of Housing and Construction, Sajith Premadasa. A total of Rs. 400,000 was spent on this project through the Central Cultural Fund. Under this initiative, 241 buildings are to be built in various temples island-wide. Speaking at the event Minister Sajith Premadasa noted that although Buddhism is protected by the constitution that it is not enough as they must execute the protection that is given to Buddhism by the constitution. He added that as a society they must condemn stupid acts of destruction carried out on places of worship when a problem arises and perpetrators who carry out such activities should be strongly punished before the law.
