Religious leaders issue special messages to mark Vesak Poya

COLOMBO (News 1st): Commemorating the three most important milestones in the life of Gautama Buddha –the birth, enlightenment and parinirvana, religious leaders have issued special messages to mark Vesak Poya day. Chief Prelate of the Malwatte Chapter In his Vesak message, the Chief Prelate of the Malwatte Chapter, Most Venerable Thibbatuwawe Sri Sumangala Thero stressed that considering the unfortunate situation prevalent in the country, this year's Vesak festival should be celebrated by giving priority to Prathipaththi pooja. In his message, The Chief Prelate of the Malwatte Chapter further stressed that nowhere in history is there any indication of an assault or harassment that had taken place, in the name of Buddhism. Chief Prelate of the Asgiriya Chapter Issuing a message, the Chief Prelate of the Asgiriya Chapter, Most Venerable Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Thero states that the Vesak Poya day is a special religious festival to all Buddhists across the world. It adds that following the teachings which were preached for 2500 years for the betterment of the human race, by any individual, regardless of his position or status, will help comprehend the path to goodness in both worlds. Archbishop of Colombo The Archbishop of Colombo His Eminence Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith urged the followers of all faiths to make spirituality the center of their lives and to live with love which was the ultimate truth taught by all religions. In his Vesak message, the Archbishop said: “It is no secret that Buddhism has played a major role in enriching people’s knowledge and truths for over 2500 years." The Archbishop adds that Buddhism is fertile soil to people of all religions as the center of all religions in the world is love. All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama The All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama in its Vesak message states that considering the prevailing situation in the country, this year's Vesak festival should be made an opportunity to rebuild social reconciliation and promote coexistence. The All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama urges the Muslim community to make this an opportunity to cooperate with all citizens in the country.
