COLOMBO (News 1st): A pending bail appeal filed by the son of former MP P. Piyasena with the Colombo High Court No. 03 on behalf of the former MP was dismissed today (May 16). When the appeal was filed, State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne appearing for the Attorney General raised a preliminary objection, it was upheld and the application was dismissed by High Court Judge Gihan Kulatunga.

The preliminary objection was brought up because the appeal was filed by the son and not the MP himself. The former MP’s son was represented by Attorney-at-Law Senarath Jayasundara.

On May 6th, former parliamentarian P. Piyasena was sentenced to four years in prison with a fine of Rs. 5.4 million by the Colombo High Courts after he was found guilty of using a government jeep for a period of one year after losing his parliamentary seat.
