COLOMBO (News 1st): A television channel named UTV owned by Minister Rishard Bathiudeen has currently created heated debate among various people.
Responding to a question posed by a journalist on the channel and the alleged racism it promotes UPFA MP Janaka Wakkumbura said that although the minister himself had called for investigations into the matter that the government had failed to carry out an investigation as yet.
Meanwhile, JVP MP Nalinda Jayatissa also speaking on the matter said that the permission given for extremists to operate television channels are much more dangerous than the possession of swords and knives. He continued to say that the government should be held accountable for providing the said channel with a licence without simply handing them over to friends.
Jayatissa added that the Prime Minister himself should verify and present a report in parliament on the content broadcast by these types of channels.
