Security of schools islandwide beefed up

COLOMBO (News 1st): The army states that the security of schools located islandwide has been beefed up. When News 1st inquired on the matter from the Army spokesperson Brigadier Sumith Atapattu he said that a joint operation has been launched by both the Police and the tri-forces to ensure the security. Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam noted that the government decided to reopen schools for grades 6-13 from tomorrow (May 13). Thereby, security personnel are to be deployed to schools as required. The Army spokesperson continued to say that the security in the Western province to the Puttalam district will be provided by the overall operational command headquarters.
