Mt Lavinia raid footage: Illegal foreign currency exchange

COLOMBO (News 1st): Verifying information behind footage circulating on social media on a raid carried out in Mount Lavinia, Police media spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekara clarified that the raid was to capture the illegal racket of exchanging foreign currency. The raid was carried out based on a tipoff to the Sri Lanka Army. Four suspects were arrested along with different currencies with a value of Rs. 2.5 million in local currency. Two motor vehicles were also seized with the suspects. He added that investigations are underway to ascertain the source of the foreign currency and to check on money laundering.
