An official at the Presidential Secretariat said that based on their investigation, steps have been taken to ban over 360 Facebook pages and accounts for updating racist and extreme religious content and spreading disinformation that ultimately leads to mass panic.
The official added that several restrained accounts belonged to the members of the banned National Thowheed Jamath.
The official went on to note that they have implemented measures 24/7 to identify social media users who spread false propaganda.
He finally noted that they intend to apprehend social media users who attempt to provoke the public and bring them before justice.
