Postponing elections is an act of terrorism : Mahinda Deshapirya

COLOMBO (News 1st) - At the "Satana" programme on Sirasa last evening (May 04), Chairman of the National Elections Commission Mahinda Deshapriya said that elections cannot be postponed taking cover behind the emergency law. However, the chairman went on to note that currently, Sri Lanka is not in a position to hold an election as the country is recovering from the Sunday Easter attack. He added that elections were not postponed even during the war and the 88/89 riots, which was a time period where Sri Lanka was in utter turmoil. Deshapriya added that postponing elections owing to emergency law is also an act of terrorism.
