Expect showers and strong winds - Met. Department

Colombo (News1st) - According to the Met. Department several spells of showers are expected to occur in the Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, Western and North-western provinces. Showers or thundershowers could also occur at several places in the Uva province as well as in the Batticaloa and Ampara districts after 2.00 p.m. The same could be expected in coastal areas extending from Puttalam to Galle and from Matara to Batticaloa via Hambanthota, in the evening or night. Winds are expected to be south-westerly with speeds of around 35-45 kmph and could increase up to 50-60 kmph at times in the deep and shallow coastal areas from Mannar to Trincomalee via Kankasanturai and in the sea area extending from Galle to Batticaloa via Hambantota and Pottuvil.
