Over 800 artillery shells discovered at a steel factory in Ja-Ela

Colombo (News 1st) -  Police stated that over 800 artillery shells were discovered during a raid on a privately owned steel bar manufacturing plant in Ekala, Ja-Ela yesterday ( May 02). The police media said over 100 empty bullet casings for T56 assault rifles were also found. The raid was conducted last afternoon by the Negombo Crimes Investigation Unit based on a tip-off. Further investigations are underway. Meanwhile, three suspects were arrested in the Balapitiya area last night. Police said the operation was carried out by Police, STF and tri-forces. Police have seized a machete and a set of robes from the suspects' possession; police said they are being questioned. Two suspects were arrested and clothing items similar to military uniforms have been seized following raids in the Maharagama and Grandpass areas. The suspects were taken into custody for questioning last night. The suspect arrested from Grandpass was subsequently released on bail after questioning.
