COLOMBO (News 1st) – It has come to light that the perpetrators of Easter Sunday attack are also behind the killing of two police officers who were on duty at the Vavunathivu police barrier in 2018.
Police media spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekara shared findings with the media.
He showed two revolvers at the briefing and said that they belonged to the police officers killed at the Vavunathivu barrier. The revolvers were recovered from the terrorists in Nindaur and Wanathawilluwa. This shows that they were clearly behind the killing of these police officers.
He went on to say that one of the revolvers was used in a murder attempt in Mawanella in March. He explained that the revolver found in Wanathawilluwa was found concealed in the forest area behind the safe house they had used for their operations. He added that all the weapons and equipment including, three compasses, armband compasses, a micro pistol presented at the media briefing were found in a barrel buried in the forest area behind the safe house.
The media spokesperson also showed a few bullets – an attempt to manufacture local live bullets by the terrorists.
The News 1st team was allowed to access the Wanathawilluwa area and inspect the site where weapons and equipment were found.
