Private member's motion to ban burqa

Colombo (News 1st): UNP Parliamentarian Ashu Marasinghe handed over a private member's motion to the General Secretary of Parliament today (April 24), requesting for a ban to be imposed on attire such as the burqa which covers one's entire face. Upon inquiry from the General Secretary of the Parliament, Dhammika Dasanayake, confirmed that although such a motion has been received, a decision has not been reached as to whether the motion will be entered into the Parliamentary agenda. Dhammika Dasanayake added that recommendations regarding this motion will be presented to the Speaker, after confirming the legal stance of this matter. He also noted that the final decision regarding this would lie with the Speaker. According to news websites, 13 countries across the world have already banned the clothing attire named the burqa.
