Intelligence agencies are manipulated-Lakshman Kiriella

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Leader of the House Lakshman Kiriella speaking at the parliament shared his views regarding the national security crisis in the country. The minister noted that the chiefs of the intelligence agencies are manipulated by a hidden hand. He noted that a special committee must be appointed to investigate why they were silent until the attack. He posed the questions whether the relevant officials; the president, the prime minister and the commanders of the armed forces were informed by the intelligence agencies of the threat. He noted that the only measure the intelligence agencies took was informing the IGP. He went on to add that with sensitive intel of a mass attack was it adequate for the intelligence agencies to inform the necessary persons with a mere letter? He noted that this was a complicated matter and qualified intelligence heads should be appointed for the respective offices to carry out their duties efficiently. He added that Sarath Fonseka is currently left out and he could be a proper and qualified individual to hold these offices. The minister said that the intelligence agencies received solid intel on April 4th and yet no procedure was followed to avoid the catastrophe. He also noted that the security council was politicized, jeopardizing national security. He took his seat with "we want the support of you all to rebuild the country out of the shambles".
