Colombo (News 1st): During a media briefing in Colombo today (April 11), MP Bandula Gunawardana stated that a no-confidence motion will be brought against Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera. He noted that it is clearly stated in parliamentary standing orders that the Committee on Public Finance (COPF) must submit its report to parliament within four days after the second reading of the budget. He said MP Sumanthiran is the Chairman of the COPF and for the first time in Sri Lanka, the Committee in its report has indicated data suppression and the submission of inaccurate information by the Ministry of Finance. MP Gunawardena said the report recommends obtaining an independent economic analysis of this misleading budget from the Central Bank, therefore, the MPs have debated on an inaccurate budget. He went onto note that as the opposition's economic investigation unit, he hopes to provide a recommendation to all party leaders to bring forward a no-confidence motion against finance minister Mangala Samaraweera. He noted that in line with the new years' auspicious time to leave for work, he will commence drafting the proposal for the no-confidence motion, based on these details.
